Times they are a-changin

Contact

Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who
That it's namin'
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin
(Lyrics - Bob Dylan)

It's been an interesting few days. The number of disaffected Melungeon descendants are growing judging from the emails I am getting.

A new Yahoo Group has been formed to discuss the Melungeon DNA - You can join by going here and clicking JOIN THIS GROUP

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MelungeonDNA/

Valentine Collins  long thought to be a brother of Vardy Collins  recently proven to have different DNA, has been added to the Lumbee Indian DNA project. Valentine Collins while being listed as a CORE Melungeon only lived in Melungeon territory for a short time, moved away and took his family with him.  Editors at Melungeon Wikipedia recently removed the families of Valentine Collins and Bryson Gibson, calling them Salyersville Indians with no known connection to the Tennessee Melungeons.  Lots of adding, deleting, and new research into 'Indian heritage' going on AFTER the publication of the 'so called' peer reviewed article claiming the Melungeons sprang from 'Sub Saharan men and white women' --

Another interesting note; Two of the SIX females whose "European"  maternal DNA was discussed in this recent publication had Native American ancestry.http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MelungeonDNA/
On page 70 of this report Jemina Simmes/Sinnes is reported to have H haplogroup -- her parents unknown, yet on page 60 of this same paper her father is reported to be Benjamin who was listed on the 1835 CHEROKEE ROLLS.

The third female in this study reported to have European DNA is Aggy Sizemore whose parents were both SIZEMORES who are undoubtedly Native American proven by DNA.

So we have TWO out of SIX females that may have had maternal DNA that reached back to Europe hundreds of years ago they could hardly be called 'white women' - I would think.

NOTE; To those of you who have not read the rest of the information on the Lumbee and Melungeon Project let me remind you that in the so called 'peer reviewed' report these authors claim they found a connection between the Melungeon Goins and the Lumbee Goins but could find no other connections.  When in fact the "Core Melungeons' Lawson, Gibson, Collins, Perkins,  and Goodmans all appear on the Lumbee Indian Project -- being Robert Estes is instrumental in both projects it is kind of hard to believe they found 'no other connections isn't it?
